Lucky I could take another derailure off a bike to get this one back up and running for our Super-duper-Downhill run later today. I’ve never seen a broken pulle y let alone two in the same accident. 10/10 could not pedal this shit.

There was also a bent spoke that I had to tighten.

To be fair, the post doesn’t say how big the stick was. :)

That’s a $125 derailure. I’m not happy about this...

My son didn’t remember, he just came out of the woods and said my bike doesn’t work...

Depending on the derailleur, you can source cages and cogs. I busted a new shimano XT and got parts for it for $23.

Depending on what you need and how soon you need it, could be an affordable  option.

It’s all about the leverage.

$125!? Wow, your kid has an expensive bike. My RD is $60.

I assume the cage and/or body is broken as well? Otherwise, it’d just be an excuse to get fancy pulleys.

I’m less sure it was a stick than bone or a rock.

The cage is bent to hell, I don’t see a repair option here. I’m glad this wasn’t my epic with a SRAM XO1 derailleur , that one is like $225.... The GX are pretty generic these days easy to get .

The cage is bent to hell, there isn’t a fix here, just a new SRAM GX derailleur .

I sort of took your claim of astronomical yearly expense on bike parts was due to the kids being old enough to wreak carnage.

If that was SRMA they’ll probably warranty it without blinking. Just tell the shop toss another one in the 55 gallon drum out back and send them away with a new one. :P

I was just riding along and boom everything broke, can you warranty this?

...and thus far other than brake pads the kids have been easy on their bikes, I tend to break more things than them. My son is now 14 and ridding really well so his level of breakage is increasing every year.

I figured that was the case since you’re replacing the RD and I couldn’t see how you’d break pulleys without trashing the entire RD.

I assume you’re leaving out body damage - I do see they sell replacement cages.  But that’s 1/3 the cost of the entire unit.

Hmm. Looks like SRAM only sources the inner cage and pulleys. It’s $38. Outer cage not available.

Seems dumb. I can’t think of a scenario where the inner cage is bent and the outer is ok.

Silver lining, at least it wasn’t an X01? Good luck

Might be time to hand over a beater mtb worth about $10 and instructions to break as much of it as possible through riding alone.  Or some other dawn of manhood challenge befitting his personality.

It’s no big deal, the kids are my ridding buddies and I don’t mind supporting the habit .

I have an Xo1 on my other bike... I think that was $200 new. It is significantly nicer tho...

This wouldn’t have been suggested if I thought you corruptible or naive.

Going to clearly state it was a joke for anyone else coming across it. SRAM gained a reputation for making a lot of good till their not parts.

SRAM is getting a bad rap because they OE supply NX shit on $3,000 bikes and people expect it to work. GX is the minimum level of SRAM to use if you actually ride your bike. Garage bike okay with SX/NX.
